More Than Meets The Eye

*singing* Tranformers! More than meets the eyes! Transformers! Robots in disguise.

Yup… I made it through the long lines at the ticket counter, then the even longer line just to get a good seat in the movie, AND, at the same time, managed to get a bona fide lady to watch the movie with me. I am feeling rather proud of my Transformers: The Movie experience right now. How was the bona fide lady feeling? I’m a get to that in a minute…

But first let me say this: the Transformers movie has to have been the most entertaining 2 and a half hours of mindless, pulse-pounding fun I have seen on screen this year. And last year. And throw in the year before that too. Now admittedly, I think you would have had to be a fan of the 1980s cartoon to enjoy this as much as I did, but some of the reviews I am reading on the Internet are just noise from over-analyzing film critics who couldn’t review an ACTION film if it’s stunt double bit them on the ass. I mean seriously! Its a live action movie based on giant robots stranded on Earth that disguise themselves as GM appliances! It wasn’t meant to win 11 Academy Awards and rival Citizen Kane. Its just a fun movie with break-through special effects, mind-boggling action sequences, and impossible story lines.

And guess what? The acting wasn’t half bad. Shia Labeouf is energetic and sharp while delivering some witty dialogue, and Megan Fox, while mechanical and stiff, does her job as eye candy when the movies takes a break from special effects candy. Even my date, the 30-year-old-virgin, thought it was “OK”, which in “women who really only love melodramas and chick flicks” speak means the movie is going to be a huge success.

I strongly recommend this movie if you like to see stuff explode.

  4. Good times but you’re very WRONG on one count – I’ll take an action movie over a chick flick ANYDAY. Case in point – my fav movie? “Kill Bill Vol. 1″
